Beth worked closely with the public as a member of the programming team at the Museum of Surrey. Visitors of all ages were engaged through various opportunities including public events (e.g., Lunar New Year, Celtic Fest, Nurses in Wartime Poem-Play), school programs, and birthday parties. Beth assisted in preparing and delivering children’s activities, responding to visitor information requests, and conducting research on how to make the Museum of Surrey a more representative and inclusive space for community members.

My favourite part of my practicum was managing the scavenger hunts from the front desk. While I mostly interacted with children and their families to give the instructions and rewards for the scavenger hunts. I also greeted patrons and answered their questions. I was initially nervous about performing such a public-facing job as I have no experience in any customer service type of work. However, I quickly found that I quite enjoyed not only my interactions with the children but all members of the public.
