Francesca enjoyed interpreting at the Fort Langley National Historic Site.

Every week I was lucky to get to know the interpreters working at the Fort who would share their knowledge of the Fort and various buildings. . . many of the interpreters, they have a vested interest in either history or Fort Langley.

Francesca helped with collections care, inventory, and demonstration and the delivery of school and public programs, engaging with “the different types of visitors within the Fort and how they would approach the site in their own way.” She describes some of the challenges of wearing a costume:

With the historical clothing I have to learn to move differently and pick up my skirt when going down the stairs so I won’t trip. The dress is wool and all of the costumes are made of natural fibers unlike modern-day clothing and the feel of the clothing adds to Fort Langley’s atmosphere.

And how she passed time between visitors:

Knitting or any similar hobby is encouraged as many visitors love that we have something to do that’s historically accurate.
