Partner Organization: Langley Arts Council, Langley, BC

Mini worked with the Langley Arts Council and assisted with both administrative and curatorial tasks. She regularly interacted with community members, artists, and the public to promote and execute a number of exhibitions and events across spaces within both Langley City and the Township of Langley.

Prior to my practicum placement, I knew I worked well with deadlines, but I did not have confidence in my ability to independently work on tasks and manage my time. With this work and practice I have gained confidence in my ability to manage tasks, set deadlines, and work effectively under deadlines.

My communication skills with colleagues has greatly developed during my practicum experience. Initially, I was very nervous to interact with my team members, and I had to reread messages 4-5 times to build up my courage before sending. I also was nervous to talk to them in person! Throughout my experience, I had the opportunity to work alongside different coworkers on events, gallery installs/de-installs, talking to different coworkers in person, via slack, via email, etc. which helped me develop my communication skills and be more confident.

My professional and personal growth since January has been mind-blowing. This practicum placement has given me so much practical experience and knowledge in the GLAM sector. Not only do I feel more confident working in a professional gallery/office setting, I have gained so much more confidence in myself.
